You
don't have to climb
a mountain; you can just drive there. To a place higher
than Mt. McKinley, the highest point in North America. Mt
Chacaltaya is the highest ski resort in the entire world,
only a two-hour drive from La Paz. |

It
seemed like a suitable challenge for the first day out in
my new vehicle. And breathtaking it was. A very rugged road
into snow country gave me a chance to try out four-wheel-drive
and get accustomed to the very short wheelbase.

| At
5200 meters, (over 16,000 feet), the deserted ski lodge
provided some spectacular views and a sense accomplishment.
And any feelings of buyers' remorse for the Toyota Land
Cruiser were obliterated. |
