I received a specific request
for reports on food. Here you go, Kim! A review of the
Haute Cuisine of El Pimental Beach. Move over Julia Child
and Tom Veneklasen. Natural foods are the standard fare
here, though not for reasons of health but availability.
Food just doesn't get any fresher than what I've been
enjoying here. Coconuts right off the tree. Fish direct
from the sea. I was taking pictures of kids catching crabs
in the estuary and they asked me if I wanted some for
lunch. Half an hour later I was having crabs and coconut
milk.

A
regional favorite, and one of mine as well, is the
coffee flavored icecream. OK, it's not Ben&Jerry's,
in fact, it's just flavored frozen milk. But it
did come direct from the cow earlier in the day. |
 |
And mighty tasty, I must
say! Our featured item today is the Duck Soup Pimental!
While enjoying 'cafe' con leche' for breakfast this morning
I noticed a live duck lasooed to the open-air kitchen
table. I returned from a short cruise in the estuary to
find that the duck was being plucked!

An
hour or two later I was having lunch. The delicately
seasoned broth came with several manly sized chunks
of unidentified vegetables and one large portion
of our formerly feathered friend. A hearty corn
tortilla and coconut milk served au natural rounded
out the meal. Simply delightful. Oddly enough, here
in the country that produces the most coffee per
square foot, I've been served a lot of instant coffee.
But then, coffee doesn't grow at the beach. |
