Aimlessness as a Virtue
Somewhere, Sometime in Panama
Or maybe "Aimlessness and Inspiration" would be a more acceptable title. But since I'm not running for office, I'll keep the one I like. Aimlessness has a certain negative connotation, but for me the positive aspects outweigh them. Openness. Freedom. No particular place to be. Available for a spontaneous, fortuitous adventure. With a person, a butterfly or a wave in the ocean!

It is in this particular state of mind that I find myself blessed with the most creativity. Unfettered by the distraction of desires and intentions my mind is open to receiving the divine download, that flash of inspiration from the heavenly hard drive!
"A good traveler has no fixed plans
and is not intent upon arriving."

I saw this quote many weeks ago and it has been my motto and mantra ever since. Presumably from the Tao Te Ching by ancient Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu, it has application in all areas of life, not just travelling.

Getting the mind to that state of aimlessness, into uncharted territory, that's the trick. Sure, I have lots of goals and intentions. But I am training myself not to cling to them. To be open to the possibility of something even grander than I had even imagined. Oops! That's yet another intention! But no worries, there will always be more to let go of...
